IF: Safe

"Safe"

This is my second entry for Illustration Friday. I was thinking about a concept for the week's topic and surprisingly it hit me that I could enter this drawing. I did this drawing during the start of summer this year. When I started this the only thing I had in mind is that I wanted to make a girl with droopy eyes and with curly hair. I also wanted to use only two colors while I executed my drawing. It did happen but of course I just did what my hands told me to do thus i came up with a scene where she is looking out somewhere. I already had an interpretation for it but I didn't tell anyone. I was daone only half way through my drawing. A few days after a tragedy happened, my cousin's grandmother (Mommy Lola) died unexpectedly. A day after the tragic death, I continued my drawing on my desk in my room where I usually do my artwork. My sister Tin went inside the room, looked over my shoulder and said, "Sino yan? Si Mommy Lola?" (In English:"Who's that? Is that Mommy Lola?") I said no.... just a girl. When I looked closely I saw that the woman in the picture did look like Mommy Lola in her younger years. I got goosebumps while continuing my drawing. I then realized that my interpretation of what I was drawing, was probably her message to her grandchildren (my cousins) I immediately told my cousins Mommy Lola's message....

"I am somewhere SAFE from the negative images of the world, I am on the other side of the thick line that separates ugliness and beauty, I am very happy where I am and I am in peace with everything, I am ready to accept my fate."

When I told my cousin she became so happy and relieved to find out that everything was fine. It was such a breathtaking experience to be the bridge between two worlds.
